If you are like me, you want to ensure that your child's educational journey takes place in a safe environment. Unfortunately, in recent years school violence and bullying has garnered headlines and the attention of concerned parents.

Good news! We, as fathers, can take action and join Watch D.O.G.S (Dads of Great Students)!

"WATCH D.O.G.S.® is the father involvement initiative of the NATIONAL CENTER FOR FATHERING that was founded by Jim Moore, a concerned father who chose to take action in response to a 1998 middle-school shooting in Jonesboro, AR. Moore wanted to help prevent violence from occurring at his children’s school or at any school. The first program was launched at George Elementary in Springdale, AR, the school of Moore’s oldest child. Today, more than 2127 programs in 40 states and New Zealand participate in WATCH D.O.G.S.®"

How WATCH D.O.G.S.® Works

WATCH D.O.G.S.®, a K-12 program, invites fathers, grandfathers, uncles, or other father figures to volunteer at least one day all day at their child’s/student's school during the school year. WatchDOG volunteers perform a variety of tasks during their volunteer day including monitoring the school entrance, assisting with unloading and loading of buses and cars, monitoring the lunch room, or helping in the classroom with a teacher's guidance by working with small groups of students on homework, flashcards, or spelling.

Helping can be as simple as joining in a kickball game on the playground. When dads get involved, your child's experience is enriched and safe. If you want to become involved with WATCH D.O.G.S please email me back. Remember, it's a minimum requirement to volunteer one school day each year. Second Annual Watch D.O.G.S. Pizza Night/Launch Event

The time has come four our Second Annual Watch D.O.G.S. Pizza Night/Launch Event at Loveland Classical Schools.

I am pleased to announce that the launch event will take place on Wednesday, August 29th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the school. The event will begin with a pizza party. After pizza, a brief presentation and video will explain in detail how we can volunteer and help create a safe learning environment for all students, teachers, and staff. At the conclusion of the presentation, fathers will be given the opportunity to sign up for specific school days they would like to volunteer during the school year. As a reminder, to be involved in the Watch D.O.G.S. men must be able to volunteer a minimum of one full school day during the school year. Please be thinking about which days you can volunteer, so you will be ready to put your name down on the calender.

If you participated in the program last year, I encourage you to show your support by attending, refresh yourself on the program, and get ready for the new year!

Finally, an essential part of the program is wearing your official Watch D.O.G.S. T-Shirt. The T-shirt is mandatory when dads participate in the program. Please bring $15 in either cash or check (to LCS) to the launch event (unless you still have your shirt from last year).
