Battle of the Books

The Battle of the Books competition offers an opportunity for those who love to read to show what they know. Teams of students compete against other schools in the district in battles to see who knows the most about the books on the provided book list. The competition is open to third, fourth, and fifth grade students and weekly practices will run from December 2016 to March 2017.

Teams

The size of the teams are determined by the number of interested students. Teams must have at least five members and are divided into two categories: third grade and fourth/fifth grade.

Fees and Supplies

The required books have been generously provided by the LCS Foundation; therefore, there are no fees to participate. Books are checked out to students as needed.

Expectations

Students are expected to read at least three of the books on the book list as assigned by the team leader; however, students are encouraged to read more than this. Students are also expected to attend all of the meetings and competitions. Meetings are held Wednesdays in room 218 until 4:15 p.m.

Snacks

Students can have a snack at the beginning of the meeting time.

Competitions

Competitions will be held in December, January, and February. The final competition will be held in March at the Loveland Public Library. All team members are expected to attend the competition even if they are not competing. Please note that students will be required to wear their school uniforms to the competitions. Due to legal reasons, LCS will not be able to provide transportation to the competitions. It will be the students' responsibility to ensure they are at the competitions.

Volunteers

The group will be required to provide scorekeepers and timekeepers for each competition. Your help would be greatly appreciated with this.
